UPDATE: It's been a few years and I never did add my scrapbook pages. Sorry about that. Maybe in the future.

How to Leave a Legacy of Faith Explained
by Brenda Boen
April 24, 2008
#1 TELL IT – Remember schools and churches don’t raise children…parents do! Teach what the Bible says…to be honest, trustworthy, have integrity, depend on God, never lie, to be like Christ, etc.
Duet 6:5-says: “Love the Lord your God with all you heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your homes and on your gates.”
In other words……always be telling it. Tell what the Lord has done for you. You may not know God’s Word but you know what He’s done for YOU in your life.
But we don’t just tell our “children”. We influence our husbands, friends, neighbors, co-workers, other family members….everyone we come into contact with, so….TELL IT!
#2 LIVE IT– We create a legacy of faith not by grand plans, but by what we do everyday. How we act, have we respond, how stress affects us. How we handle situations. Where we go when we need help….to God! Be Christ’s example…a living Bible for others to read because you are an open book. You are also God’s hands and feet on earth….so LIVE IT!
#3 DOCUMENT IT – Record your spiritual journey. Our beliefs make up who we are. I want my children and grandchildren to know the prayers I’ve prayed, the blessings I’ve received, the lessons I’ve learned, how God has worked in my life and how He can work in their lives. I want to tell my story. If I don’t tell it, who will?
You know, I am more than a mother, a friend, a sister. My character is defined by my beliefs, my personality and the way I interact with others.
We tend to forget over time what others say so getting it on paper is always a great idea. I do, fortunately have some written accounts of some of my ancestors. Others are just a fog….no clue. Your story can get lost if you don’t document it.
How many of you know what your great grandmother was like, what she believed, what she did, how she reacted to life? Her accomplishments, her thoughts, her victories and her battles? Did she work? What were her hobbies? Do you know how she responded to stress? Did she have a relationship to God? Did she depend on God and live for Him? Knowing that your grandmother knew how to sew and make quilts is interesting but knowing she depended on God will impact your life and strengthen your faith.
There are Three Ways to Document and Record Your Spiritual Journey
#1 Take what God has taught you and put it on a page for others to read. You can become an author and write a book – do a biography and tell what God has done in your life.
#2 Journal your thoughts in written text or book form. This a great way especially for those who love to read. Write down your thoughts and date each one. Jot down those God moments. A wonderful way!
#3 Make a Legacy of Faith Scrapbook or a photo album plus journaling and other things to make it pretty and enjoyable to look at. Everyone usually has family photos and loves to look at them. The photos help to tell the story with more than just words.
I’ve never been that big of reader. I would love to have a journal written by my grandmother, etc. BUT…..page after page of text can be daunting for me. I love photos and pretty things. They draw my attention. A scrapbook will do it all. It’s also my creative outlet.
As you begin to record your spiritual journey it will build others faith as well as your own when you see how God has worked in your life. It will also let people know who you really are.

Famous Last Words
By Brenda Boen
September 27, 2008
There have been many people throughout history who have penned their last words before they died. Some record the bitter lonely life they led, others about their glorious home in heaven that was waiting for them. Others have left a legacy of love, encouragement, kindness and compassion.
What do you want your family and friends to read about you? Do they know your heart? Have you thought about writing letters of encouragement to each of your family members and close friends? Telling people verbally how you feel and appreciate them is a wonderful way to share your heart and should be done regularly. Whatever you do, don't leave things unsaid until it's too late. You never know how long you'll be in this earthly body.
Another way to leave your legacy is by writing it down. In time words spoken tend to fade, can be forgotten or misquoted. The written word can be a cherished memory that your loved ones can read over and over again through the years and passed down to future generations. WOW! Think about what an impact you can make.
So what do you write about? First you can tell them how much you love and appreciate them. Advice about life and how you've learned the hard way may help steer someone on the right path. And, of course, sharing your Christian faith will give them direction and hope. The only way to true happiness is through Jesus Christ. There is no other way. We can be good all day long but that won't get you to Heaven. The secret is the easiest choice---to walk with God every day and by following His Word, the Bible.
In my Legacy of Faith scrapbook I've included my salvation experience, poured out my heart to God and how I feel about Him, included several pages about how God loves me and cares about me, included matters of prayers for others, included various favorite scriptures and songs that have special meaning to me. I also have a page that details my quiet time with the Lord. Every page has been carefully created with meaning. Nothing was slapped together just because it looked good.
My prayer is that you will consider putting your Legacy of Faith on paper. It can be done in so many different ways but the important thing is to just do it. Your family members will receive a tremendous blessing if you do.

What
have you written on memory's page?
Deeds that were done in the Master's name?
Words that were spoken to spread His fame?
What have you written today?

Creating My Legacy of Faith Scrapbooks
By Brenda Boen
May 1, 2008
In October of 2007 I started creating my first Legacy of Faith scrapbook. It was a journey that started out in our Bible study class as a prayer treasure map. We were "supposed" to create a book of prayers and illustrate those prayers. Of course, how do you illustrate? Well, you can draw pictures, if that is what you like to do. I tried but I can only draw stick figures. That would have been fine. Others were doing that and they were great but it just wasn't for me. The more I drew the less I liked it. I don't know if God just gave me a technicolor eyes or what but I quickly had another plan. I began to use some colorful scripture clip art that I use for church flyers and newsletters. That was more me. I would write down a prayer and glue down an appropriate scripture to go with it. Soon thoughts were rolling in my head. Instead of documenting very specific prayers I would generalize some prayers that would be timeless, so to speak. They were very real prayers that I genuinely prayed but they weren't all dated or specific as those that are in my prayer journal. Sometimes personal prayers are private and I thought I'd continue the way I was going.

They were very real prayers that I genuinely prayed but they weren't all dated or specific as those that are in my prayer journal. Sometimes personal prayers are private and I thought I'd continue the way I was going.
The
next step came to me to document how I feel about God and how He has worked in
my life. I thought that if I could get this in a pretty scrapbook others would
look at it and know my heart. I began with the subject of prayer. After all, the
study I was attending was on prayer. So I thought I'd document how important
prayer was and then I could document how I spent my quiet time with the Lord.
My first page was more of a cover sheet with Psalm 116:1-2 (one of my favorite
verses):
"I love the Lord, for He
heard my voice, He heard my cry for mercy. Because He turned His ear to me, I
will call on Him as long as I live."
The
page included some beautiful paper with shades of purple hydrangeas and
butterflies and dragonflies. I also penned a special note from me to my Lord:
"O
Lord, You are always there to listen to me. You are my Father in whom I trust.
You care about ME! Thank you for Your love and Your attentiveness. I love You!
Brenda"
I
wanted something else to go on the page so I made a 3D dragonfly and mounted it
with a pop dot. I looked up dragonflies on the internet and found something
very interesting. For some Native American tribes dragonflies represent
swiftness and activity and for the Navaho they symbolize pure water. And it is
said in some Native American beliefs that dragonflies are a symbol of renewal
after a time of great hardship. In Japan dragonflies are symbols of courage,
strength and happiness. Well, that was it! When I pray God is swift and
actively working on the answer. He is my Pure Water. And prayer always renews
me and gives me courage, strength and happiness. Wow!
