Have you ever been in a situation where you had something you had to do but along the way things happened to keep you from doing it? You all know what I mean. The phone rings, the milk gets spilled, the car overheats. It is very frustrating when you have to be somewhere and just can’t quite make it. It’s like something is pulling you back and try as you may you just can’t seem to get there.
It’s
like that in our Christian life as well. We can get so easily distracted
along the way. We have good intentions but there just seems to be one pot hole after
another. Sometimes the distractions are from other sources.
Sometimes they are our past failures that distract us. We’ve all done
things that we would like to forget. We live the tension of what we have done
and what we want to do. But, because our hope is in Christ, we can let go
of past guilt and look forward to the person God will help us become. We
can fix our eyes on the goal, the prize, which is in Christ Jesus, who is the
Author and Perfector of our faith.
Our
goal is to know Christ, to be like Christ and to be all that Christ has in mind
for us to be. We should be like the runner who keeps his eyes fixed on the
finished line and lay aside everything harmful that may distract us from been
effective Christians. If there is
something holding you back today, let go of it and press on!
Philippians
3:12-14 “Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made
perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold
of me. Brothers, I do not consider
myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind
and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize
for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
